Bangor 1 0-2 M1s
A brilliantly sunny day in Bangor for the 1s. It was a slow start with Wrexham and Bangor having a good tussle in the midfield. The final third passes not quite heading their way. Wrexham tested the keeper first with some excellent work from Leo Sowter from right back into Gaz Roberts who laid it off for Matt Whelan and a cheeky pass to Nathan Samuels couldn’t quite squeeze it past the defenders. Bangor went on the attack and had several short corners in a row, most of which couldn’t make it outside of the D…Matt Stephens with another enthusiastic tackle earned him a green card. But it was a stalemate as the whistle went.
Halftime, Rich Read came on for Dai. A confidence boosting team talk and Wrexham really dug deep. A slight change in formation, with Roberts dropping into the midfield was a masterclass. A pass from Damon Smith early in the half into some space, Dan Thomas took it into the D, got a nosebleed and forgot the ball. But the chances were coming. Thomas saw a gap between the Bangor defence and slipped in Samuels. At the centre spot, Iwan took the ball and smacked it into the side netting. Minutes later Bangor went up the other way and pushed their way into the Wrex defence. But the ever trusty Gaz ‘Silks’ Bailey-Roberts skill turned 3 players inside out, Stephens strong tackling, Sowter finding the right passes out and Rich Read everlasting legs outlasted the onslaught. Bangor had to push for a draw and left a few gaps. Thomas took a quick side ball into Samuels and again, but this time without ANYONE around him, Iwan trapped the ball on the p spot. With what seemed like an eternity, Iwan eyeballed the keeper like a Mexican standoff and sent him the wrong way with a nice finish into the bottom left.
