Chester 5 0-5 M1s
Away in Sunny Chester for the last game of the season. And what a season! If the results finished right, the men would have lifted the league!
Wrexham started liked they meant it. A fast paced press left Chester squashed in their own D. A short corner routine fell back to Nath Samuels and hit a lovely reverse shot that looped over the keeper. Chester changed to a diamond in midfield and once they cracked the attack, they did find their own out-balls. But the strength and aggression of Matt Stephens, Tom Czismadea, Leo Sowter and Gaz ‘Silks’ was very well skilled to get out of trouble. Another routine from a short corner got Damon Smith another goal.
Halftime, the call was for more of the same. As Wrexham pushed, Chester were fatigued. Wrexham capitalised with three more. Samuels, like what he’s done for most of this season, scored again for the Dragons from a decent drag flick. Captain Czismadea with a solid strike from another short that was definitely not going wide…the last goal coming in from Richard Read. Controlled a bobbling ball past one of their defenders (even hitting the guy on his head) dropped down kindly and he smashed an upright reverse into the bottom corner.
An end to an epic season. Hard fought against Bangor and Bebington and mathematically still possible for any of those to win it. Congratulations to Bangor!
Motm: Nath Samuels. Another great game. Stepping up and having the best goal scoring of the year, even after a late push from Matt Whelan.
Dotd: Olly Sowter. Almost giving up his clean sheet after a few saves landed back at some Chester players feet. Only for them to sky a golden chance - which looked harder to miss!
