V Chester 4s
The game started very evenly with both teams delivering some great passes to create effective attack play. Steph Bradley, Gemma Bagot and Leah Hamilton held the defensive line well with Leila Harding making timely blocks in goal. Tina Lowe (Bignall) making great forward play with her effective runs into the D sadly had to retire from play as she was struggling with a leg injury. Poppy Polden replaced her and used her runs into the D effectively making sure the keeper had to clear the ball from danger.
The match continued end to end with some good linking play with Gemma Phelps, Bethan Taylor and Becky Davies driving the ball down the right side opening up Chester’s defence. Unfortunately 7 minutes before halftime Alisha Lowe who had played a deep centre mid and had maintained composure in the central midfield area, had to come off with a head injury. Sophie Forgrave moving from the forward line to midfield linked with Gemma Phelps now playing deep centre mid and Becky Davies playing High Centre Mid all created some great passages of play.
The game was still end to end and at halftime it was 0-0
Second half played much the same. Both teams had opportunity to go into the lead.
In the 55th minute Chester from one of their flurries into the D scores with a well taken goal wrong footing Laila. Wrexham dusted themselves down with Steph Bradley asked if she could go up and collected a fine pass from Bethan Taylor. Steph promptly jinxed around a Chester defender and slammed the ball into the left corner of the goal, scoring the equaliser in the 59th minute. Hattie Povey playing on the left had a couple of opportunities to put Wrexham ahead but Chester GK was able to clear the ball away from danger. Both teams continued to attack and made both Gks have to make some telling clearances. The final score was a worthy 1-1 draw
Next weekend Wrexham meet Buckley at 11.00 am. Venue TBA.
